Riftr Terms of Service

Last Updated: March 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Riftr ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Service Description

Riftr is a temporary file-sharing service. Files are uploaded into "rooms" identified by a secure share link and are automatically and permanently deleted after a user-selected expiry period. No account is required for basic usage; creating an account unlocks higher limits.

Key features include:

  • File sharing via a secure link — anyone with the full link can access the room
  • Optional password protection in addition to end-to-end encryption
  • Optional email notification to a recipient at the time of room creation
  • A choice of expiry period at room creation time
  • A dashboard for authenticated users to view their active rooms

3. Service Limits

Usage limits differ by account type:

  • Anonymous users: up to 100 MB per file, maximum 1-day expiry, 50 uploads per hour
  • Authenticated users: up to 500 MB per file, maximum 7-day expiry, 200 uploads per hour
  • Maximum 100 files per room
  • Maximum 2 GB total per upload session

4. What You Cannot Do

The Service does not support the following actions, and you should not rely on them being available:

  • Deleting files before their expiry date
  • Revoking or invalidating a share link after it has been shared
  • Exporting or downloading your account data
  • Recovering files after they have expired and been deleted

5. Share Link Access

A share link grants access to all files in that room to anyone who possesses it. Riftr has no way to restrict access to a room once the link has been shared. If you choose to password-protect a room, recipients need both the full link and the password. You are solely responsible for sharing links securely and only with intended recipients.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

All files are automatically and permanently deleted after the expiry period you select at room creation. Expiry periods range from 30 minutes to 7 days depending on your account tier. Once deleted, files cannot be recovered under any circumstances. Riftr does not maintain backups of user-uploaded content.

7. User Responsibilities

You are solely responsible for all content you upload. You agree not to upload, store, or share any content that:

  • Is illegal under applicable law
  • Infringes on the intellectual property or copyright of any third party
  • Contains malware, ransomware, spyware, or other harmful code
  • Is used to facilitate fraud, harassment, or any other unlawful activity

8. Content Monitoring and Removal

Riftr does not actively monitor user-uploaded content. You are solely responsible for what you upload and share. Riftr reserves the right to:

  • Remove any content at any time without notice or explanation
  • Suspend or terminate access for any user who violates these Terms
  • Cooperate with law enforcement and legal authorities as required by law

9. No Warranty

The Service is provided "as-is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Riftr does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from data loss. You use the Service at your own risk.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Riftr shall not be liable for:

  • Loss of files or data, including files deleted at expiry
  • Unauthorized access to rooms by parties who obtained a share link
  • Any interruption, suspension, or termination of the Service
  • Any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service

11. Intellectual Property

You retain ownership of all content you upload. By uploading content, you grant Riftr a limited, non-exclusive license to store and transmit that content solely for the purpose of providing the Service. This license expires when the content is deleted. All Riftr trademarks, logos, and software remain the property of Riftr.

12. Modifications to Terms

Riftr reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. The updated Terms will be posted at this URL with a revised date. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.

14. Privacy Policy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.
